Battle of the Liquid Lipsticks
January 22, 2016It seems like every company is coming out with their own version of liquid lipsticks. While there are many, many different brands and formu...
- The shade range is awesome, ranging literally from white to black, with pretty much every color in between.
- The formula is very thin, yet somehow soft and glides on easily.
- The colors apply opaquely and evenly, as long as you don't apply too much at once.
- They take a little longer to dry down, around 10-15 minutes on me.
- Even dry, they're somehow soft and almost hydrating. They definitely don't dry my lips out.
- The applicator is very flexible, which makes application super easy.
- These last around 8 hours unless I eat. After eating, you'll need a touch up.
- Retails for $18 each.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are one of the more popular brands.
- The shade range is good, pinks, purples, nudes, reds, even blue and black.
- The formula is mousse-y and a little thicker than Jeffree Star and Colourpop.
- These are best applied in thin layers. Some are opaque in one layer, some need two.
- These dry down in about 2 minutes.
- These can be slightly drying.
- The applicator is a stiff, doe foot applicator. Application is easy.
- These last around 9 hours, needing touch ups after eating or drinking hot drinks.
- Retails for $20 each.
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips are super inexpensive and very popular.
- Colourpop has a huge range of shades, the biggest of all of these companies.
- The formula is very thin and watery in texture.
- Best applied in a thin layer. Most shades are opaque in one layer, some need two. One in particular, Buds, is pretty impossible to work with. It stays streaky no matter what.
- These dry extremely quickly, in under two minutes.
- These tend to be drying, definitely moisturize and exfoliate before applying.
- These also have a stiff doe foot applicator, application on these is easy as well.
- These last around 6 hours. Some of the lighter colors flake off. They need touched up after eating or drinking hot beverages.
- Retails for $6 each.
Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream is a little different from the rest and have been around for a long time.
- The color range is pretty good, ranging from light to dark.
- The formula is thicker and mousse-y.
- Some shades are opaque, some are streaky and hard to work with, such as Transylvania and Cairo. Adding multiple layers is difficult because of the formula.
- The majority of these do not dry. There are a few shades that dry down completely and stay put for around 6 hours, but most do not dry and will transfer. Even the ones that dry will wipe right off with a napkin.
- These have a doe foot applicator, because of the thicker formula, it's more difficult to get a crisp line.
- The ones that dry last up to 6 hours, the others will last around 4. All come off with food and drink and can be wiped off easily.
- Retails for $6 each.
As you can tell, they're all different. It's difficult to choose a favorite, as I love them each for different reasons. I recommend trying them for yourself. If you're someone who wants a matte liquid lip but don't want it to be dry, definitely check out Nyx, they'd be perfect for you.
You can find the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks at Beautylish, which is where I recommend buying them from. They shipped the same day I ordered them and arrived just a few days later.
You can grab the Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks from Sephora.
Colourpop Ultra Matte lips are available only at Colourpop.com.
The Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream can be found at Ulta, usually on a buy one, get one 50% sale.
I want to try some other liquid lipsticks, so I'll probably be reviewing more in the future.
Thanks for reading!
