It's time for me to share my 2016 beauty favorites.
Not every product I mentioned was newly released in 2016, and not every product mentioned was even new to me in 2016, but some are and all are my very tried and true favorites that never let me down.
2016 favorites

Let's start with face products

2016 Beauty favorites

  • Becca Backlight Priming Filter | I picked this up earlier in 2016 and quickly got attached to it. It's a great primer if you're going for a luminous look, without enhancing imperfections.
  • It Cosmetics CC+ Illumination Cream | This is no secret, I've been obsessed with this since I tried it, also in 2016. I tried the original a few years ago, but I love this version even more. It's so nice for my dry skin, and always looks good. This is the giant tube, and it's 75% gone.
  • It Cosmetics IT-O2 Foundation | Tragically, mine is 90% empty & the wrong shade for me right now. No one talks about this foundation, but if you have dry skin, it's going to be so nice for you. I've had this one for longer, but I've yet to find a foundation I like more than this one. It's hydrating, it has good coverage, and it lasts all day. It's not too dewy or super matte, it's just perfect.
  • Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray | Like we didn't see this coming. I've been obsessed with this for YEARS. I really can't go without it, I've tried, it was awful. This stuff just works.
  • Nyx HD Concealer | This is another one that I've used for years. It's inexpensive and gets the job done. I use it under my eyes and to highlight. I've tried a couple of other concealers that are similar, but I always come back to this one. I still want to try a few other cruelty free options to compare, but this is definitely my current HG.
Makeup favorites

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit | Duochrome highlight powders. Do I really need to say more? I love the Gleam Glow Kit by ABH as well; ABH does highlight powders well. However, duochrome. Also, this was a 2016 release.
  • It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder | This is a product I started using in 2016 and fell in love with immediately, because it did exactly what it said. This makes my pores disappear. Not 100%, but pretty close, and nothing else even compares. I've hit pan on the second one I've purchased. I need another.
  • Lorac Color Source Buildable Blush | The color shown is Prism, but this is all inclusive of Lorac Blushes in general. I love them. They're my current favorite blush formula. I'm not a huge blush fan, and I hardly wear any, and these are very easy to apply sheerly and super easy to blend. These are new to me in 2016.
  • It Cosmetics Ombre Bronzer | This bronzer is just, so good. It's one of those bronzers that you can't mess up. It's fool proof and I love it. It's buildable, blendable, not too warm, not too cool, just pretty. I use the bottom two shades. I use the top shade to highlight, and it's gorgeous. I've been using this forever, and I'm just starting to hit pan. Definitely going to need another one.

Best in Beauty

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette | It's on everyone's list, and for good reason. It's a super warm, red toned palette, with a nice variety of colors. It has neutrals, reds, oranges, and two shimmers. This is a palette you can actually travel with, and I love a good standalone palette. Most palettes that are released now need another palette to make it complete, so this is even better. It released in 2016.
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion | I need a good eye primer, and for a while I was trying other things because this had stopped working for me. However, when I ran out of my Nars Eye Primer, I grabbed a new tube to try of the UDPP and it's been amazing, so I've fallen in love all over again. I don't have the Nars tube anymore to show, but these two are the best I've ever tried, the Nars is a little pricier.
  • Kat Von D Tattoo Liner | I've never been so loyal to a liquid eyeliner before, until I tried the Tattoo Liner. I love the brush tip on this pen, it's so easy to work with. Plus, it lasts a long time before it dries out, unlike most liquid liners. It's super opaque and long lasting, definitely my HG.
  • Essence Make Me Brow | This brow gel is Essence's response to Benefit's Give me Brow, and it's SO good. I love the tiny brush, I love how it thickens my brows and gives them some hold and color. I use this on a pretty much daily basis. I will repurchase this as long as it is available to me. I have no idea when it released, but I discovered it in 2016.
  • Nyx Microbrow Pencil | I've used many brow pencils over the past couple of years, and I've loved a few. I've actually had trouble picking a favorite, because I've liked them all, but Nyx came out on top because of the fine tip, nice spoolie and inexpensive price tag. The color range is pretty good and it's just a good, easy to use pencil.
  • Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows | I've had a couple of these for a while, and received a couple more from Urban Decay recently. I've included them because I'm obsessed with glitter, but I despise loose glitter. These are pressed and on top of a glitter glue, you get the same effect without the mess. They're gorgeous and the color range is beautiful. If you haven't at least looked at them, you're missing out.
  • Urban Decay Heavy Metal Liners | Basically, I've been using these for a while as well. They're glitter eyeliners, and I've used them as eyeliners and as all over lid glitters, because they work for that as well. They're gorgeous and it's glitter without the mess of glitter. I've had a ton of these in the past, at the moment I only have the two I was recently sent by Urban Decay.
Brushes

Beauty Favorites

  • It Cosmetics Brushes | Obviously, It Cosmetics brushes rank at the top for me. They're the best brushes I've personally used. There are a ton of brush brands that I've never tried, but at this point in time, these are my favorite. They're super soft, they do a great job and they're gorgeous. Also, dirty. Probably should have washed them first. Oops.
Lips.

2016 Makeup Faves

  • Colourpop Liquid Lipsticks | Ultra Mattes, Ultra Satins, they're both ranked in the top this time. I randomly grabbed shades, so these aren't representative of my favorite colors because I couldn't pick a favorite. The Ultra Mattes have had their formula changed recently and it's much better. The Ultra Satins have a formula that I think everyone loves because it's semi-matte. It "dries", but it isn't transfer proof. It's long wearing, it doesn't travel and smear around your face but it doesn't totally dry down and set completely, so it will wipe off but it doesn't dry out your lips. The Ultra Mattes are reformulated and much more comfortable to wear. They aren't as drying, the pigmentation is better, they apply less streaky and they wear better. I hear people dislike them still and that they are drying, and I mean, they're a matte liquid lipstick. I use the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask every night so my lips stay hydrated and they don't bother me at all. If you dislike the Ultra Mattes, try the Ultra Satins. Seriously.
  • It Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Vitality Lip Flush | This gloss is everything. You can see through my tube because it's almost empty and I have to buy a new one. It's the perfect everyday gloss that becomes the perfect shade of pink once applied to your lips. It's great for everyday wear and I can't get enough. Also, as a gloss hater, I love this stuff. It's not sticky at all and is hydrating.
  • It Cosmetics Hydrating Lip Treatment | This is my second tube, and I use this during the day. I'm crazy about lip hydration, and if I'm not wearing a lip color, I'm wearing this. It's so good and keeps your lips super hydrated. SO GOOD.
I didn't include skin care, because I forgot, so a few quick mentions:
  • It Cosmetics Skin Care, it's available at Sephora and itcosmetics.com and I love it. It's really nice and has been working really well for my skin.
  • Tarte Maracuja Oil. When my skin is super dry, I like to use this after I shower for extra moisture on my face.
  • Yes to Coconuts Hydrating Coconut Mask. This is a great hydrating mask and I use it twice a week or more often if I need to. It leaves your skin very soft and hydrated.
So that's my 2016 Best of Beauty!

What are some of your 2016 favorites?

Thank you for reading!

  2. Colour Pop's liquid lipsticks confuse me. I have several that are pretty in the tube, but the applicator comes out and everything is a muddied shade of brown and they all look very similar when applied. I just don't get it. Even the shades that are brighter on others come out looking like mud. I'd swear that they had a batch issue/factory issue when they were made (all purchased at the same time), but CP won't give me the time of day when I've contacted them about it. So many other brands that are worth my attention, imho.

    1. I've heard other people say this! CP has the weirdest customer service, I know other people have had issues with the coloring of the lipsticks and with their customer service, but I've never had an issue with either. They probably had a bad batch but they should have responded and made it right. That sucks that you had a bad experience, I don't blame you for not purchasing from them anymore.

  8. This is fun seeing what your favorites are. I swatched that Modern Renaissance Palette and another one I think it was called Master Palette by Mario. I didn't buy anything being on a no buy but as soon as this is over, my first splurge is that eye palette!
