I decided to take a break from makeup today to share a couple of books I've been reading lately. I'm actually alternating between 4 books at the moment, but I'm going to share the one I just finished and the one I'm currently reading.
Girl Code Book
Girl Code Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur

I just finished this book about a week ago, and I really liked it. It really tries to reinforce the idea of positivity and spreading positivity among other women, which is important. We spend far too much time tearing each other down and getting jealous of other women who we fear are doing better than ourselves, We have a tendency to see another woman succeeding and rather than congratulating her, we immediately try to find a way to demean her accomplishments or outdo her in some way, because it makes us feel like we've failed. That should never happen. Admittedly, I've been this girl. I've been blogging for 6 years and I'm nowhere near as successful as girls who have been going for a year or two, and it gets so frustrating. I've had many setbacks, unfortunate situations and financial struggles in my way and it seems like it's never-ending. I try to stay positive and not be that girl. Honestly, there's room for everyone of us to succeed, and we should be lifting each other up and helping each other every single day. That's the point behind this book and what it's trying to get across. It's pretty short and it's a pretty good read. If you know a girl who likes to give those backhanded compliments and attempt to tear other girls down, this might be a nice Christmas present for her.
Then, there's the next book I've been reading:
I'm Judging You
I'm Judging You The Do-Better Manual

I bought this upon reading the review on Emily's blog.
I'm about a third of the way through this book so far, so I'll post about it again once I finish it, but so far I'm absolutely loving it. With everything going on in the world right now, especially with the election that JUST happened, I can't imagine a more relevant book to be reading right now.
I bought both of these on Amazon, as I do with all of my books. Also, pretty much everything else. Amazon basically has their dirty hands in my bank account, probably thumb wrestling Sephora for my last penny as I type this.
What books are you reading right now?
Thanks for reading!
xx

  1. I need these books! I've been at it for four years and am super-disheartened. Plus, there are readers and other bloggers who love tearing anyone down. Blogging, IMO, is like book publishing - plenty of room on readers' shelves for all our work!

    1. It's really hard to see what seems like everyone around you succeed while you seem to go nowhere. I've put so much into this, so much time, money & effort and some days I just wonder why. And yes, that's why my comments are moderated now, because despite my lower number of readers, I still get a lot of hate from readers and other bloggers alike. But, there is definitely room for all of us and we just have to keep pushing through, keep doing what we love and stay positive!

  2. These sounds like great choices. I'm a fiction reader and I just finished Jodi Picoult's latest, Small Great Things.

  4. I read her review of I'm Judging You too - I have it on my list! :) I love when women support each other. I work in a very male dominated career field (engineering) and so most of us women really try to stick together. :)

  8. I want to read these. I want to be better and more positive woman.

Lately I've been picking up and putting down a book called Headhunting in the Solomon Islands Around the Coral Sea. Part memoir and part travelogue, it's an account written in the 1940s by an artist and her travelling partner (the headhunters) who search the south Pacific drawing the locals.

  9. You know, I'm sure I've seen the cover of I'm Judging You, I want to say I saw someone reading it on the train during my morning commute earlier this week! I recall seeing that side eye lollipop! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!

  10. I'm so glad you're enjoying I'm Judging You - it was so eyeopening to me and SO RELEVANT. I'll have to look into Girl Code - sounds like I'd benefit from it right now.
