The Becca Backlight Priming Filter is a primer that I've heard so many people rave about. I'm personally always skeptical of anything and everything that YouTubers are raving about because in the past, it hasn't panned out well. Rather than rushing out and buying it, I waited it out and did some research.
Becca Backlight Priming Filter Review
I have seriously dehydrated, flat, flaky skin the majority of the year. Lately, I've been struggling with skin issues that have been causing parts of my skin to be dry, parts to be oily and major breakouts all over the place, but that's a whole other issue that we'll talk about in another post.
This whole dry, dull, flaky thing is what I've been trying to work with and it's hard.
When your skin is super dry, foundation does not sit right on it. It breaks up, it cakes up and it just kind of sits on top of your skin and looks bad. Hydrating primers can help this, but they don't always help with the flat, dull look. This is why I was interested in the Becca Backlight Priming Filter.

The Becca Backlight Priming Filter is supposed to extend the wear of your foundation while also blurring fine lines, and giving your skin a healthy, radiant glow.
This isn't really advertised as a "hydrating" primer, but it truly is. I like to use my IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Serum and once it sinks in, I use my IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream moisturizer. I give it at least 10 minutes to sink in, but I try to give it 15 before I apply my primer. Using these products together really gives a great base for my foundation. It gives me a very radiant, healthy look and my skin doesn't end up looking dull or dehydrated throughout the day.
Dewy Primer
I really love the combination of these products, but I can say the Becca Backlight Priming Filter can hold it's own pretty well as I've used it with lighter moisturizers and it's performed well. For myself, it performs at its best in combination with the IT products.

Let's quickly talk about the packaging.
The bottle is frosted glass and it's pretty heavy. It's really gorgeous. It also has a really nice pump.
I like it.
The primer has a very light, fresh scent. I don't mind it and once you apply it to your face, it disappears.
I definitely recommend trying it out. If you don't want to commit to the full size, go grab a sample at Sephora or Ulta.
What's your favorite primer?
Thanks for reading!

  3. I totally agree with you on waiting to do research before buying. I have dry skin just around my mouth, so the dry caking always happens to me. I may have to look into this - I do like the frosted glass packaging - it gives it a luxurious look.

    1. Honestly, I have no idea. I get a little oily on my nose in the summer, and I used this then and it was fine, but I've never had severely oily skin so I have no idea how it would react to that.

  5. That looks great! I much prefer hydrating primers to the purely silicone types.

    1. Definitely! Becca has some really nice products, maybe a little on the overpriced side, but nice nonetheless.

  9. Sounds like a great primer! I have super oily skin so I try to avoid things that add moisture, because it usually ends badly for my makeup. I'm using the Smashbox Photo Finish primer currently.

    1. Definitely! I have always had dry skin, so I have no idea what it's like to deal with oily skin.
