Review and swatches cushion foundation

I'm not going to lie, this was my first time ever trying a cushion foundation. To be honest, they confused me and I didn't really understand the logic behind them.

So, from what I've gathered, foundation in the cushion compacts is very thin, light and weightless. The idea is for it be be light, build-able and able to hold a high SPF.

The first and only I've tried so far is the It Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation SPF 50+. This is meant to be hydrating, anti-aging, pore minimizing and color correcting. This is also infused with Peptides, Niacin, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Algae, Vitamins A, B, C, E and Drops of Light®.

The packaging is a compact, obviously. Inside, there is a sponge, and then you flip the little plastic piece up and a sponge soaked with foundation is underneath. The packaging is cute and looks nice sitting on my vanity.

Let's talk about my issue with this foundation as well as other cushion foundations. There is 0.34 oz of foundation in this compact. Most foundation are a minimum of 1 oz. I understand that there's only so much you can soak into a sponge and that too much will just result in it drying out so I'm not mad about it. I just think the amount of foundation sounds off-putting.

Now that that's out of the way, I've worn this foundation about 5 or 6 times now. I've used it with primer and without and found that I prefer it with no primer or a hydrating primer, but it didn't like the pore filling primer.

Swatch is of my the lightest shade.

The way I apply this is I start in the middle of my face and blend it outwards toward my hairline. This seems to look the most natural. I have a lot of redness on my face, so I'll layer it there and it doesn't get cake-y or crack on me like other foundations will.

I find this to be light - medium coverage, depending on whether you build it up or not. It lasts well on my skin and looks nice all day. It does transfer a bit, but most foundations do, honestly. This doesn't totally hide my pores, but it blurs them pretty well and doesn't sink into them or any fine lines.

Overall, I really like this foundation. It's a nice, dewy finish and I think I'll buy a refill when it runs out because it'll be the perfect foundation for spring.

Also, it's cruelty free and paraben free.

  2. Ohhhhh I usually use the IT Celebration and LOVE it!! I actually am a huge fan of the IT product line and their brushes are my absolute FAVORITE!! I just saw this product last weekend and was curious about it, seeing as I've used a powdered foundation for goodness nearly 15 years, I was curious. So thank you, I may have to actually pick this up and try it out. YAY

  3. I think it's time for me to try it out. I have a LOT of redness in my face and I hate trying to use a blending sponge - I feel like I just rub foundation into my skin forever.

  6. I love IT Cosmetics so I'm a bit biased. My favorite product is their CC+ Cream. While the cushion foundation isn't as great as the CC, I still really like it. It's great for travel or for your purse for touchups too. I find it covers well but I'm sure to use this up quickly.

  7. I would squish all the product from this, that foam thing looks so fun. I like that the coverage isn't thick, I need a light coverage for my skin tone. I will have to check this out!

  9. I really like this foundation (have it in Tan). But as you said, cushion compacts are a HUGE waste of product. Apart from the minuscule quantity we get for the price, there is no way we can get every drop out of that sponge. I indulged in this one, but no more cushion compacts for me.

    1. Yeah, I like them because they seem lighter and more hydrating and my skin gets super dry, but I definitely feel that you don't get much product and some of what you do get is wasted because it won't come out of the sponge. Super frustrating, but I adore this foundation anyway!
