This week I wanted to share my favorite smoothie recipe with you after I update you on my progress and let you know a few other things I've been eating.
I've still been working out everyday, and while it's hard, I'm really starting to become one of those people who likes working out. It makes me feel good, it gives me energy, I feel accomplished and happy.
Those are words I never imagined I'd say(or type!)
I haven't been doing P90x or any work out DVDs as of yet, I've been doing a ton of other exercises on my own, and up until this week, I hadn't even been doing any cardio (other than walking), but I'm introducing a jump rope this week. :)
I didn't want to start p90x until I felt ready, and I feel like that will make me hate working out again. Things like that aren't for everyone, because while it works and it works FAST, it's extremely difficult to keep up, it's hard to do and it's easy to hate and get burned out on something like that.
So, since this is what's working for me now, this is what I'm going to continue to do.
As for my work out schedule, I usually work out as soon as I get up. I wake up, eat a banana, grab a bottle of  water and get to it.
Right now, I'm working out 6 days a week, for about 30 minutes a day, not counting cardio/walking.
So far, it's really helping. I haven't been measuring myself because I can't find my measuring tape and I keep forgetting to buy some, but I've weighed myself, and I've tried on clothes that didn't previously fit.
This week, I've lost 5 pounds.
I don't know how many inches, but I know that I can wear some of my old jeans again, so I've dropped a pants size.
This is something that's been helping me lately.
Any time I consider skipping a work out or ordering a pizza, I think about that and it helps me to stay on track.

And for anyone, like me, who gets frustrated over how long it takes to see results and reach your goals...

As far as what I've been eating, I'm not all that restricted.

I don't drink more than half of a soda once per week.
I allow myself to have sweet tea 2x per week, I use the Lipton k-cups, one is 70 calories.
I drink a minimum of 3 bottles of water each day.

I don't eat sweets, especially baked goods or ice cream as those are my weaknesses.
I have a horrendous sweet tooth and I will kill you for a cup of ice cream or a cupcake.

I try to avoid sugar, and I don't add sugar to anything.
I'm trying to avoid overprocessed food, but I haven't cut it out completely.
I'm also cutting down my carb intake by not having any after around 9 P.M. (keep in mind I'm typically awake until 2-3 A.M.)
I'm avoiding greasy foods and fast food.
I'm trying to only eat out once per week.
I allow myself to have bread, but only wheat, and it's limited.

So, I told you what I don't eat, how about what I do eat?

Smoothies (recipes below!)
Vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, carrots, broccoli, etc) in unlimited quantities.
Fruits (blueberries, strawberries, bananas, melon, pineapple, mango, etc.)
Wheat Bread
Cheese (very limited!)
Lunch meats/sandwiches (chicken and turkey)
Chicken (grilled, baked or boiled)
Steak/beef (grilled) in small quantities
Potatoes in small amounts
Yogurt

Basically, I will eat anything I want, within reason. I try to only buy "healthy" food when I go shopping, so that's what I have to choose from. But, if I'm craving something terribly, I'm going to eat it. I can't let myself feel deprived, as that will make a "diet" harder and more like a diet. What I'm trying to do is not diet, but I'm trying to make a lifestyle change.

A couple of things I did pick up to help curb my sweet tooth are some All Natural Strawberry Fig Bars, and they are SO good and fulfill that sweet tooth, but they are really healthy. I found them at wal mart & they are great.

Another thing is the Fiber One brownies. They're also very good, very chocolately but low in fat, sugar and calories. I don't know how healthy they are, but it's better than grabbing that chocolate bar I'm craving.

So, I usually make one of two smoothies, and they really are fairly similar, it just depends on whether or not I want to add protein to them or not.


First, the one without protein.

About a cup of frozen fruit 
(I buy the mixed fruit bags at wal mart in the freezer section. They contain pineapple, mangoes, peaches, and strawberries)
Half a cup of yogurt (I prefer strawberry because it's sweeter)
About a cup of orange juice

I put all of this in the blender and blend it until it's smooth. You can add ice, but you don't need it.
I'm not 100% on the measurements because I just eyeball it.

Protein Shake:
1 scoop of strawberry protein powder
1/2 cup of strawberry yogurt
1 cup of frozen strawberries and bananas (they sell them frozen in wal mart)
1/4 cup frozen blueberries
1 cup of milk

Blend til it's smooth.
