I purchased this mascara in an IpsyMe offer.
Let me explain what that is before I get into the review.
If you are subscribed to Ipsy's monthly service, you'll receive 4-5 deluxe sample/full size products each month for only $10, shipping included.
In addition to this, there is usually as least 1 IpsyMe offer, where you'll be offered products with a special discount. They are typically in very limited quantities, so you must act quickly.

To subscribe to Ipsy, click my link & sign up! It's really a great service.
Yes, my link IS an affiliate link. Each time someone subscribes through my link, I receive points & I can trade the points for additional items, so I do appreciate it when you use my link!

So, this is the first IspyMe offer I've taken advantage of, and it was for the Benefit They're Real full size mascara and a sample size of the Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara for $23 with free shipping.
I've been wanting to try this mascara for a long time, and had honestly almost bought it at Sephora the day before this offer was posted. I thought this would be a nice opportunity to try them both without paying shipping charges or driving all the way back to Sephora, which is about 30-40 minutes from where I live.

Now, onto the mascara.

Benefit They're Real Mascara makes a lot of claims, but does it live up to its claims?

Benefit Mascara

It comes in a silver tube, and has a plastic wand with plastic bristles, and even has little spiky bristles on the end of the brush, that are really amazing for getting the lashes at the inner corners of your eyes that are typically hard to get.

The wand it kind of large, almost as big as the wand in the CoverGirl Lash Blast mascara, which I've never really liked. I've heard a few people say the two are similar, and I completely disagree. The brush IS similar, but I find the brush on the They're Real mascara is so much better.

Let's talk application.
You MUST wipe off the end of the brush, because a lot of mascara likes to come out on the end and it will end up all over your face. Trust me, I know.
After you've done that, I recommend pulling it straight through your lashes for the first light coat, then begin wiggling it through your lashes for a coat or two.
Then, take the brush vertically to remove any clumping, get the inner lashes and you can also use this to fan out your lashes.

I like this mascara. It's a pretty wet formula, so you need to be a little careful, but it's not so heavy that it weighs your lashes down, just make sure you curl them really well before applying.

I haven't had any smudging, flaking, etc. I've also heard that this mascara is hard to remove, I haven't had any issues. I use the Equate brand of makeup remover wipes, and I don't recommend them! They sting my eyes terribly. The Neutrogena ones are better and WILL remove this mascara. It takes a little more effort than other mascaras I've used, but it's not impossible.
Coconut oil takes it right off, as well.

So, what do I think?
I like it. I apply 2 coats, and it lengthens, volumizes and separates my lashes wonderfully. Is it worth $23? Maybe. It depends on how you feel about buying high end mascaras in comparison to drugstore. $23 vs. $7 average is a bit steep.

Worth the hype?
Meh. I'm just not as impressed as I thought I would be. It's a really good mascara, don't get me wrong. I just think that $23 is a bit much, ya know?

Can you find something comparable at the drugstore? Of course!

Have you tried this mascara? What did you think?
I always love to hear your experiences, because mascaras work differently for everyone.

Thanks for reading!

**As of December, I'd like to add that I've fallen COMPLETELY in love with this mascara, and I will definitely repurchase it, over and over again. This has become my holy grail mascara, and I couldn't recommend it enough. I've been using it everyday and I just love it. As it's aged a bit, it's just gotten 100% better. The volume, length and separation this gives my lashes is unmatched by any other mascara I've ever used.**
